Fees:
Ok, so people are telling me not to list my fee on the web. But I hate "Fees" pages that don't tell the consumer anything about the fee. How about: my fee is a bit less than the average fee for a practicing midwife in Boulder County, because I'm a bit newer and I think experienced midwives deserve to set their fees accordingly. And in case you're wondering, the average fee is around $3000. This covers all prenatal care, labor and birth care,
and six weeks of postpartum care for mother and baby.
Some other fees that you may incur include:
- $150 for initial lab work
- $50 for additional labs
- $50 for the birth kit
- $75 for placenta medicine
- $75 for the Newborn Metabolic Screen (aka PKU test)
- $150 for a Rhogam shot if you are Rh negative
Additionally, I commonly
suggest herbs and herbal tinctures, food-based prenatal vitamins
and
supplements, “green drinks” and
protein powder in response to situations that may
come up during the pregnancy. I obtain these items wholesale
and pass that
price on to our clients.
Many insurance companies do cover homebirth. It is
usually reimbursed at the “out-of-network” rate,
about 70% or so of my normal fee. I require you
to pay me in full by 36 weeks;
I will then
provide you a bill at the end of our time together
that you can submit to your insurance company for
reimbursement.
